I was scheduled for a C-section at 38 weeks (they did not want me to go into labor). I had to be at the hospital at 10am for a 12:30pm delivery. I had to start fasting the night before by midnight. No food or water. How can you tell a pregnant women not to have any water. Of course all I could think about was I need water:)
Just about to leave for the hospital.
Family picture. Last one of the three of us
We got to the hospital with no traffic and were able to check into our room and leave our luggage. We were all prepped and ready to go by 12pm. There was no one in our area and the nurses said the OR was pretty quiet. They even thought we might go early. Everything seemed to be going so great. Then a ton of "emergency" C-sections took place. At first I was thinking I am so lucky that I am not having any issues and it is not an emergency. After a few hours I was hungry and because I had an IV I had to use the bathroom every thirty minutes. We were told "you are next" a few times then finally the nurse reminded them I had not eaten in a very long time and they needed to get us into the OR. It was so cold in our room. When they told us it could still be hours we asked them if they could warm up the room.
They gave us both these blankets that are connected to a heater. They were awesome.
I think this was the longest Allen and I had been in a room alone and without a TV since Alexis was born. We got caught up on so much and really enjoyed talking. It was almost like a date night:)
After 5pm we are finally going to have Cole. Can't wait. Overall everything in the delivery went great. The only comment from the doctor was that he was so big.
First pictures with Cole. Such a cutie.

Daddy and Cole in the recovery room. Not sure why the nurse wrapped his head up in the blanket. He looks like a mummy
It was so late when we finally made it to our room. Danielle came to visit us. I don't have any pictures because I was sick from not eating for so long. Nana and Alexis couldn't visit until the next day.
The worst part about being bumped so many times was that Alexis couldn't visit until the next day. It was our first night without seeing her. Here she is meeting Cole for the first time. She got so excited.

First car ride...going home
The first night after having a second baby is so much easier than the first. With Alexis we had no idea what to expect. Or what to do when she cried...all the time. Cole was a dream. He ate every two hours and went right back to sleep.
We survived the first night.
We are so very blessed. So happy Cole is here and is happy and healthy. Alexis is doing great as a big sister. More pictures to follow in a future blog.
A huge thank you to my mom and sister for helping take care of Alexis while we were in the hospital. So sorry Danielle got sick half way through her trip and had to spend it trapped in a bedroom. Which we later realized the air vents were closed so she was getting no A/C and it was 90+ outside. Sorry:(
I love those blankets they give you that are hooked up to the heater. I totally need one at home! :)
ReplyDeleteLove all the pics and happy it all went well! Congratulations.
