We decided to rent a house on the beach for a week to celebrate our birthdays and Mother's Day. In March we spent a few weekends driving to local beaches to find a house to rent. We found the one we liked the best in Surfside. (45 minutes from our house) It was a three bedroom, two bath home right on the beach. It was called Splash Down. The plan was to check in on Monday at 4pm. Monday morning Allen woke up and was sick:(. We decided I would get groceries and pack us up and see if he felt better. So I went to the grocery store with Alexis. I had to pull the cart behind her stroller we had so much food to get. I am checking out...Alexis is crying so I take her out of the stroller...they ask if I need help out...I usually say no but I really do need help so I say yes. We are getting two bags of ice on the way out...the ice freezer is empty. We go outside and I can't find my car. I am starting to panic and am so embarrassed. I finally find it. He loads in the groceries and tells me to meet him out front and he will get the ice. As he is loading the ice in my truck I accidentally shut it on him. Ugh. After all that...we did not leave on Monday. We will try again on Tuesday--my birthday!
Tuesday....Allen is not feeling any better. We decide after my Mom gets off work at 12:30pm we will leave. It took us 2 hours to pack up the car. A baby needs a lot of stuff:). We drive to the house and unload. We are both exhausted. I put Alexis to bed.
Packing for the beach. Alexis is always so serious when she is in the baby carrier.
Picture of the house from the beach. It was cute.
Selfie from the balcony off the master bedroom.
Tuesday night my Mom and I had wine and talked. It was fun.
Wednesday Allen surprised us and drive to the beach around noon. We had fun sitting outside looking at the ocean.

Wednesday night we celebrated my birthday.
Opening a gift from our friends Michelle and Dan. They mailed us our gifts.
One of the gifts they gave us was the stick to take selfies. This is our first attempt. Think we need practice.
My Mom got me a sorbet/ice cream maker. Can't wait to use it this summer. Allen got Fitbit....I am loving it.
My birthday dessert of chocolate brownies. Yummy
Thursday was Allen's birthday. The house we were in was being sold and it transferred to the new owners on Thursday. So we lost power around 9am. We need the power for the AC and we had a ton of food in the fridge. Power was going to be off until the next day. So they gave us access to the house next door. We moved all our food over. We cooked dinner for Allen's birthday. By the time we ate and cleaned up we were all too tired to open gifts. We planned on sleeping at our rental home with the windows open. After two hours of trying we all gave up and walked next door at 10pm.

Allen is super excited about his gifts:)
Trevor was able to join us. Here he is coming back after a walk on the beach.

Friday the homes in either side of us were rented to 18-21 year olds. At least 20 people per home. They arrived around 2pm. They were having fun at the beach. Drinking and playing music. At 7pm we decided to leave. I didn't want to have to call the police at 3am or be miserable all weekend. We made it home by 9:30pm. We were bummed but glad to be home.
Reading your first paragraph I was smiling because it's those "mommy moments" that make us who we are. We can survive anything after all those things you mentioned and somehow still carry on. (Sometimes with a smile pasted on too). Yes, packing with those little ones is always a treat. You will always remember this birthday though! Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you still got to go out of town and enjoy your birthdays and that house looked real cute.
